Google launched a convenient portal to their site two days ago for accessing centralized updates and news about their new products. It is aptly named Google New. Keeping up with all the latest developments at Google is not an easy undertaking, with company acquisitions being at an all time high this year and with constant daily features and side projects being added like Google Instant. It’s quite hard to know when something you might find useful has become available. Google New aggregates information from 100’s of Google blogs and presents hot topics that users should know about.

Google is obviously not just a search engine. It contains advertising platforms, maps, documentation tools, phones, and countless products that have developments added every day. Google New offers information based in a category style menu with sections for Search, Maps, Android, Gmail, AdSense, Blogger, YouTube, Adwords, Docs, Websmaster Tools and more so that someone browsing the site can find exactly what they’re looking for tailored to their interests.

It’s nice to see that this site has risen out of the creative minds of Google employees who famously get the opportunity to commit 20% of their working hours to personal projects of their choice. Google New is one of those employee endeavors that was materialized and actually seems to offer a useful applications and be a huge time saver for those scrounging the net for information on the company.

Even with it’s overwhelming popularity and superpower status, Google still has trouble advertising itself in certain areas, particularly when they want to promote the lesser known new ventures they’ve developed. We’ll wait to see if the site will catch on to Google enthusiasts as a one stop shop for keeping up with Google products.

Do you think this tool is useful and will catch on or is this just an advertising tactic by Google that will fade into the mist soon enough?
